NEVILLE 'AXED'?

Gary Neville was hauled down to London before being told he was being axed for his verbal outburst at Alex Ferguson.

The Manchester United skipper travelled down with the squad on Friday afternoon expecting to start Saturday's lunchtime clash at Fulham.

But Ferguson had already planned to axe him and made him travel as part of the punishment for his touchline row in Lille. Fergie was furious with the England star's rant witnessed by team-mates and a TV audience.

The duo rowed after Lille's players tried to walk off during their Champions League match on Wednesday following Ryan Giggs's controversial free-kick winner.

Neville, 32, tried to confront them but Ferguson grabbed him and told him to keep out of it, only to cop an earful from his player.

Now Neville is set to be left out for tomorrow's FA Cup replay at Reading.
