Newcastle and Manchester United are both keeping tabs on Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.
The Nigeria international has emerged as one of Serie A's best forwards during his two years in Italy and is attracting plenty of interest.
The Daily Star revealed earlier this week that Man Utd like Osimhen but would not be prepared to meet Napoli's £100m price tag, while reports from Italian publications Il Mattino and CalcioNapoli assert that Newcastle too are keen on the 23-year-old but also recognise the difficulties in completing a transfer.
However, that doesn't mean that the Magpies have been totally put off pursuing a deal for Osimhen, and right now they are trying to get to the front of the queue should he depart the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona this summer.
Newcastle brought in striker Chris Wood from relegation rivals Burnley in the January transfer window but were keen on bringing in another forward too, ultimately failing to get deals for Reims' Hugo Ekitike and Benfica's Darwin Nunez over the line.
Meanwhile, Man Utd interim boss Ralf Rangnick has already insisted that the Red Devils will need to bring in a young striker this summer, with Cristiano Ronaldo recently turning 37 and 35-year-old Edinson Cavani likely to leave on a free transfer.
Marcus Rashford has seriously struggled for form in a Red Devils shirt this season, but 19-year-old Anthony Elanga has emerged as a favourite of Rangnick's in attack since the German took interim charge.
