NOT GOOD ENOUGH BUT STILL HERE

From The Times:

‘Roy Keane’s piercing portrayal stung Kieran Richardson. It hurt him as deeply as had Manchester United’s 4-1 humiliation at Middlesbrough, which provoked Keane’s caustic rebuke.

“As a young player, I had to sit there and take it on the chin. Roy was right.”

“I listened to what Roy said, watched the tape and set to work on learning from my mistakes,” says Richardson. “Like the other players here, I was devastated by the defeat at Middlesbrough. But I’ve gone in and worked harder and tried to put things right. That’s what we’ve all tried to do.

“We’ve had our rocky patches at United this season but we’ve continued to believe in ourselves and in each other and we’ve always believed we’d come through. Some people think it’s gone, but it hasn’t gone. Our ambition is to win trophies and we have the players to do that.

“There are strong characters in this club, lads who are determined to carry on the Manchester United tradition, and I’m a strong character as well.

“The gaffer has built two great championship-winning teams here and he’s in the process of building a third. I want to be a part of that. It’s what I work for every single day.”
