Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Explains Paul Pogba Has a 'Different Injury' & Clarifies 'His People' Comment

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has explained that Paul Pogba has undergone surgery on a ‘different injury’ than the problem that ruled him out for three months.

The Norwegian has also sought to clarify what he meant when he previously discussed the operation and referred to ‘his people’, which gave the false impression that Pogba’s personal entourage has been dictating things and not the club.

“Paul came back after a long spell out, two games, had a reaction, couldn't go to Burnley, felt his ankle was sore, we did a scan,” Solskjaer is quoted as saying by the Manchester Evening News as he addressed the ongoing speculation at his latest press conference.

“It's not the same injury, it's a different injury,” the United boss added.

“Of course, when you get that scan, we speak to him, you consult your own medical people as well like I did, when I [had] my operation [as a player]. You want the best second opinion and the advice was to have [surgery]. It's not a major one and probably three or four weeks [out].

“When I said ‘his people’ – as in when you consult your surgeon and the ones you trust, that’s maybe my bad English. You have people you trust and speak to.

“When I did my injuries, loads of knee operations, I had my people in Norway and Sweden I spoke to and Paul has people he trusts, and that’s more important.”

A further absence of three to four weeks is likely to rule Pogba out of action until the end of January. That will likely include both legs of the upcoming Carabao Cup semi-final against Manchester City, as well as Premier League clashes against Norwich, Liverpool and Burnley.

United are next in action on Saturday evening against Wolves in the FA Cup third round.
