Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted he was impressed with Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Raúl Jiménez during Saturday's 0-0 draw in the FA Cup.
The Mexican is one of many players who has been linked with a move to Old Trafford during the last few months (it's somewhere, probably - let's face it, who hasn't been linked with Manchester United?), having fired 17 goals and nine assists in his 33 appearances for Wolves this season.
Jiménez came on at half time and nearly opened the scoring in spectacular fashion, only to see the ball crash against the post. After the game, Solskjaer (via The Sun) refused to be drawn on the speculation, but admitted he had been impressed with the striker.
"He’s another good player we’ve been linked with. He came on and did well but I cannot comment on these situations," the boss admitted.
Wolves boss Nuno Espírito Santo also weighed in on the speculation. He was adamant that the club are not interested in letting him go, but did confess that the unpredictable nature of the transfer window makes it impossible to be certain.
“It’s the first time I heard it. Ole didn’t mention anything about it," Nuno said. “But the transfer window is open. When it is open, anything can happen. But we are delighted to have Raúl.”
While a switch to United is by no means impossible for Jiménez, it would certainly come as an enormous surprise.
Wolves only brought him in permanently during the summer and they will definitely not want to let him go. He has been in fantastic form this season, helping Wolves in their unlikely push for Champions League qualification.
You also have to question whether United would be interested in signing a 28-year-old striker. The club remain committed to Anthony Martial, while 18-year-old Mason Greenwood has done more than enough to earn himself plenty of opportunities in the team.
Given their desire to sign young talent, a move for Jiménez does not really make sense for United, especially when you consider how expensive the deal would be.
Jiménez, who arrived at Molineux for £30m, remains under contract until 2023, meaning Wolves would not let him go unless they received an astronomical offer.
