Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Reveals Anthony Martial Is 'Struggling' After Post Collision

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has ruled forward Anthony Martial out of Thursday's Europa League meeting with LASK after picking up an injury during the 2-0 win over Manchester City.

Martial collided with the post while attempting to chase down a clearance from Ederson, and although he did manage to stay on the pitch for 25 minutes, he eventually had to be replaced by Odion Ighalo.

Speaking ahead of the game (via the The Guardian), Solskjaer confirmed the injury would sideline Martial on Thursday, and the Frenchman might not even make it back in time for Sunday's clash with Tottenham Hotspur.

"Anthony hurt himself when he slid into the post so he's not ready for this game," the boss explained. "Hopefully he can be ready for Sunday but I'm not sure. He's struggling a little bit."

Losing Martial for the LASK game is hardly a major problem for United. The Frenchman has often been rested in the Europa League this season and has completed 90 minutes just once, with Solskjaer instead giving opportunities to Mason Greenwood or Ighalo.

However, spirits won't be so high if he does have to miss the Spurs match. Martial has been in fantastic form in the league, firing three goals in his last four games, while United don't really have anyone else to do that.

Behind Marcus Rashford and Martial, United's next top scorer is Greenwood with five goals, while defensive midfielder Scott McTominay sits on four despite missing a large chunk of the season through injury.

In a game which could be crucial to their top-four hopes, United really don't want to be relying on the goals of McTominay to carry them through. Yikes.

However, it's not all bad for United as Solskjaer confirmed that midfielder Paul Pogba is inching ever closer to a return, saying: "Paul is getting closer – he’s not trained with the team yet or fully with the team but by next week he will be ready."
