Paul Pogba Gives Injury Update & Reflects on Difficult Period Sidelined With Foot Problem

Paul Pogba has opened up on the details of his long-term injury and given an update on his progress, following months on the sidelines.

The Manchester United midfielder has struggled with a string of knocks this season as he continues his recovery from ankle and foot problems. Pogba hasn’t played in over four months, though revealed his physical condition is improving.

Speaking to the club’s official UTD Podcast last month in an episode due to be broadcast fully on Monday, Pogba said: “I'm already training and touching the ball. I've been frustrated, a long time ago. Now I'm almost there, so I'm just thinking about getting back and training fully with the team and everything.

“You think bad, but I've never had something like this in my career, so I always take it in a good way.”

Pogba has only played eight games for United this season, with his last appearance coming in the 4-1 Boxing Day win over Newcastle. The 27-year-old has missed 40 of the Red Devils’ fixtures in an extremely challenging campaign on the sidelines.

With not a single appearance in 2020, Pogba revealed how he has become even more motivated. He added: “It makes me more hungry to come back and do well. And, yeah, it just shows me as well how much I love football, you have to be very patient.”

The Frenchman started the season with a fantastic performance, getting two assists in the season opener against Chelsea. He played every minute of United’s first four Premier League games, but explained how the turning point was the 1-1 draw with Southampton.

Pogba said: “I had a foot injury, which came in the game against Southampton. It was early this season and so I carried this for a long time, training and trying to be playing with it. After I stopped, I found I had a fracture.

“I had a cast on it, a plaster-cast, so it went very well but too well. The bone got bigger and so, when I came back again, I played those two games against Watford and Newcastle, I could feel something again.”

However, Pogba is optimistic of returning to the pitch in the near future, whenever that might be in the current circumstances. He said: “So I had to have an operation and now here I am. I don’t feel anything and, hopefully, I’ll be back very soon.”
