Paul Pogba Posts Social Media Message From Hospital Room Ahead of Ankle Operation

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba goes under the knife today to have the operation on the ‘different’ ankle injury that recently derailed his return from an already lengthy absence.

Pogba missed close to three months in the first half of the season with a foot problem. But after only two comeback games against Watford and Newcastle, the Frenchman suffered a fresh setback and was advised to have surgery to heal the new problem.

Pogba uploaded a short video to his Instagram story on Tuesday morning from his hospital room, featuring the caption, ‘Hello before op.’

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer clarified the situation at a press conference last week.

“Paul came back after a long spell out, two games, had a reaction, couldn't go to Burnley, felt his ankle was sore, we did a scan,” the boss said.

“It's not the same injury [as before], it's a different injury.”

Solskjaer also explained that it is not ‘major’ surgery and that the procedure will add around three or four weeks onto the player’s recovery. It rules him out of at least the rest of January, including two games against Manchester City, an FA Cup replay and a clash with Liverpool.

Solskjaer was also forced to clarify confusion over an earlier comment about Pogba’s ‘people’ in which the false impression had been given that the club was not in control.

“Of course, when you get that scan, we speak to him, you consult your own medical people as well like I did, when I [had] my operation [as a player]. You want the best second opinion and the advice was to have [surgery],” Solskjaer said.

“When I said ‘his people’ – as in when you consult your surgeon and the ones you trust, that’s maybe my bad English. You have people you trust and speak to.

“When I did my injuries, loads of knee operations, I had my people in Norway and Sweden I spoke to and Paul has people he trusts, and that’s more important.”
