Paul Pogba Shows Support for Coronavirus-Hit Blaise Matuidi in Training Video

Paul Pogba has only started six matches for Manchester United this season due to injury, but he has continued to dominate the headlines anyway.

The French World Cup winner missed the majority of the first half of the campaign because of a foot problem, before returning for the clash with Watford in December.

However, he has been absent since Boxing Day after picking up a separate ankle problem – despite Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's claims that he would be back within three or four weeks after his operation in January.

Nonetheless, Pogba was expected to return to United training on Tuesday, but the club took the decision to close their training facilities for the time being as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. The players were, however, issued their own personalised fitness programmes.

Pogba has now taken to his Instagram to post a video of himself training....in a Juventus shirt.

Of course, he has repeatedly been linked with a move back to his former club - and some United fans were left far from impressed with his decision to slip on the black and white jersey.

Those who were outraged were in need of an explanation, which was quickly given to them by other social media users. On the back of the shirt was Blaise Matuidi's name - the Juventus midfielder tested positive for the coronavirus on Tuesday evening. There's the reason.

Pogba was keen to inform 'the cheeky ones' that his decision to wear the Juventus top was merely a show of support for his fellow countryman, nothing more. The 27-year-old posted the caption: "New training camp is called...Quarantine PP Arena, open 24/7! Have fun working at home with my brother Victor Lindelof.

"Supporting our friends Blaise Matuidi and Albin Ekdal, and all athletes and people around the world! Be strong, #StayAtHome and be safe! (I know the cheeky ones will talk about the Juventus jersey...I'm just supporting my friends...that's all, nothing more)."

The midfielder also posted further videos on his Instagram story, showing United centre-back Lindelof taking part in their home training session.

Could Pogba have supported Matuidi in a different way rather than wearing the jersey which was bound to spark a reaction from some? Yes, he could. But at the end of the day, this was how he chose to support his friend during a time of great difficulty.
