From The Guardian:

'After growing frustrated as Real trailed 2-0 to bottom-of-the-table and already relegated Real Murcia, Beckham received his second red card of the season for arguing with the referee's assistant seven minutes before half-time.

The midfielder made an apparently fair tackle on Murcia's Luis García but the referee's assistant did not see it that way. Perhaps more out of frustration with his team's dismal performance and their trophyless season than the decision itself, Beckham sprang angrily to his feet. Turning to the assistant he clearly shouted "hijo de puta" (son of a bitch) at him. The official alerted the referee Turienzo Alvarez, who had no hesitation in producing a red card, to which Beckham and his team-mates reacted with renewed fury.'

Beckham will now miss Real's final match against Real Sociedad.

Real got a goal back but were unable to avoid defeat to John Toshack's side, marking the first time in their history they have lost four successive matches in the Primera Division.

Barcelona's 1-0 win at home to Racing Santander, meant that Real also lost second spot in the league with one game left to play.

If Real do not finish second to champions Valencia it will disrupt their plans for a pre-season tour of Asia because they will have to play a Champions League qualifier in August. Valdano admitted that if they did lose out to Barcelona in the race for second place then they would have to make alternative arrangements that could have negative effects on next season.

"We can play games in Europe which will be just as profitable as Asia, but we would like to go there because there are many fans there who are keen to see Real Madrid once a year.

"It is going to be more uncomfortable if we have to play a qualifier and have to shorten the holidays of the players and that will be a problem for next season."
