PINNOCCHIO BACKS 4-5-1

This is becoming a regular occurrence. Does he not remember what he says any more?

“We've changed the formation we're playing this season. What we're trying to do is get Rooney and Ronaldo into forward positions more often, because they can win games for you.
“It also means that Ruud van Nistelrooy won't be as isolated as he was at times last year. But it's a system you can only play if you have three intelligent midfielders behind them.

“And in Roy Keane, Paul Scholes and Darren Fletcher, we have that. So we're utilising the intelligence and experience of Keane and Scholes, while benefiting from the great energy that Rooney, Ronaldo and Fletcher provide.”

How that fits in with Fergie’s previous insistence that United don’t play 4-5-1, and the equally baffling one that United have never played 4-4-2 (he bizarrely attempted to claim Cantona and Yorke didn’t play as strikers) is anyone’s guess.
