Ralf Rangnick 'not happy' with Man Utd squad's lack of fitness

Ralf Rangnick has questioned his Manchester United squad's commitment to post-game recovery, highlighting the amount of injuries they have been suffering compared to other Premier League sides.

Paul Pogba became the latest player to pick up a muscular injury for the Red Devils this season during his side's 4-0 defeat to Liverpool. A string of United squad members have pulled up in recent times despite their forgiving fixture load compared to their top-four rivals.

Quizzed about Pogba's knock after the game, Rangnick admitted that the frequency of injuries this term was a cause for concern.

“Muscular injury in his calf… he pulled his muscle,” he said. “This is now the seventh or eighth player missing with injury and we’re only playing in one competition. It has to raise some questions.

“I’m not happy about that at all, but this is the sad truth right now and we have to accept it.”

Asked what may be causing the high number of absentees, Rangnick added: “Liverpool are playing in four competitions and have no injuries, this is also on how you train. What you do, what measures you take in order to recover and be fully fit. These are the questions that need to be asked.

“You can change it, other clubs change it. Why should their players be fitter than our players? This is not something that has to be automatically like that.”

Defeat to their fierce rivals leaves United facing an uphill battle to finish in the top four this season. They currently sit sixth, with Arsenal and Tottenham in fifth and fourth respectively possessing games in hand over them.
