Ralf Rangnick to become Austria manager as well as Man Utd consultant

Ralf Rangnick has agreed terms to become the new manager of the Austrian national team, and 90min can confirm that the role will not impact his pre-agreed consultancy position with Manchester United.

The German is in interim charge at United but will leave the dugout in the summer once Erik ten Hag arrives and will instead take up a consultancy role at Old Trafford, signing a deal to offer his services until 2024.

The Austrian FA have been trying to convince Rangnick to take up their manager job alongside the United one, and it was revealed on Thursday that he had been formally offered the position.

Now, 90min can confirm that Rangnick will be the next Austria manager, filling the role vacated by Franco Foda after they missed out on a spot in the 2022 World Cup.

Despite speculation to the contrary, the role will not impact Rangnick's agreement with United and he will still be on hand to offer advice on the mass squad rebuild as per the terms of his deal.

"What I can tell you and confirm is I will definitely continue with my consultancy role at the end of the season and for the next two years and I'm very much looking forward to that," Rangnick said after Thursday's 1-1 draw with Chelsea.

"We haven't spoken, Erik and myself, but we have spoken with the board about the content, the profile of the job, the content of that consultancy role, we spoke about that and that's why I can now confirm I will definitely continue with that."
