Real Madrid Chiefs Want to Ditch Paul Pogba Interest & Focus Attention on Rennes Starlet

Real Madrid's bosses are stepping up their interest in Stade Rennais starlet Eduardo Camavinga, but Zinedine Zidane still needs to be convinced over the move.

Los Blancos have been heavily linked with a move for Paul Pogba over the last 18 months as Zidane looks to bolster his options in midfield, singling out Manchester United's star player as his ideal recruit at the Santiago Bernabéu.

But Marca suggests Real Madrid's decision makers are now looking to convince Zidane to drop his interest in Pogba – as they did in the summer – with the club instead wanting to pursue a move for Stade Rennais midfielder Camavinga.

The 17-year-old has already been tipped for a move to Real Madrid at the end of the season, but Marca's report claims the club will now prioritise signing Camavinga ahead of Pogba this summer.

Zidane still needs to get on board with the plan, but it's suggested Camavinga could make the move to Real Madrid for just €70m - more than half of what's being touted for Pogba to leave Manchester United.

Camavinga initially landed on the club's radar as a potential long-term successor for Casemiro and, although he's not a holding midfielder by trade, the teenager appears to tick all the boxes for Real Madrid's hierarchy.

The France Under-21 international only made his senior debut for Stade Rennais last season, but it was during a 2-1 win against Paris Saint-Germain in August where Camavinga started to make international headlines.

He set up Romain Del Castillo's winning goal against Thomas Tuchel's side and has since gone on to score his first senior goal during a 1-0 win over Lyon.

Camavinga only has two years left on his contract at Roazhon Park and he's already attracted interest from a number on Europe's biggest sides, including Barcelona and Manchester City.
