England's serial prankster Rio Ferdinand says that the laughter stops once England get on the training pitch.

"The spirit in the squad is fantastic and everyone has been having a laugh for the last two weeks since we joined up," said Ferdinand.

"But when it comes down to the hard work in training and getting out there on the pitch, the laughter stops and the serious stuff kicks in.

"A lot has been made of the stunt with David but Becks never thought he was being kidnapped and when you see it on television you'll see what I mean.

"It was just a laugh. But now it's concentration time."

Sven Goran Eriksson seems to think that he has his concentration levels back again. Speaking yesterday he mentioned the time he dropped Rio a few months ago.

"I dropped him and I think he deserved it," Eriksson said yesterday. "He has everything as a central defender. He has all the quality, it was just that sometimes he stopped concentrating. That's why I dropped him. It was to say 'wake up'."
