ROONEY SET FOR SCAN

Wayne Rooney is due to have an MRI scan on his broken metatarsal today which will be a big indicator as to whether he'll be fit for the World Cup.

United's assistant (but soon to be head) team doctor Tony Gill will get the results before they are passed on to England.

England's doctor Leif Sward has to inform FIFA by Tuesday with the news of if Rooney will be able to partake in the tournament or not.

FIFA's chief medical officer Dr Jiri Dvorak said: "Each team physician has to confirm by May 30 that their players are physically and mentally fit to participate in the World Cup.

"If Wayne Rooney is on the list then that is, in principle, confirmation that it is anticipated he will have recovered in time to participate in the tournament."

This has lead to numerous reports saying that Fergie is set to fall out with the FA over Rooney' selection especially on the back of United's club doctor being 'sacked'.

While the omnipresent club source told the Mirror

"Mike's exit came as a bolt out of the blue. Clearly something major happened.

"He had been so close in Rooney's recovery treatment that people are questioning why he went when the healing process was getting to a crucial period. Nothing adds up - apart from a big bust-up with Fergie."

No doubt a few interesting days are ahead at Old Trafford.
