Sir Alex Ferguson 'Left Humiliated' by Man Utd's Embarrassing First-Half Showing Against Man City

Sir Alex Ferguson was reportedly left humiliated by Manchester United's embarrassing first half performance against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, with the former United boss said to be unable to even look at anyone in the director's box at half time.

The legendary manager was in the crowd as United were dismantled by City's attacking firepower in the first period, with Riyad Mahrez, Bernardo Silva and Kevin de Bruyne running the show as they each scored to likely put the two-legged tie beyond their city rivals

It could have easily been a lot worse for the hosts had Raheem Sterling put away a number of relatively easy chances, and according to The Mirror, Sir Alex was seething at half time and was desperate to get away from anyone and head straight to his office.

A club source said: "The directors lounge wasn’t a good place to be at half time from a United point of view. All Sir Alex wanted to do was go straight to his office.

"He couldn’t face anyone and was determined to be somewhere else, while Mr Woodward just had his head in his hands.”

United managed to pull a goal back in the second half courtesy of Marcus Rashford. However, City had already taken their foot of the gas as they strolled to a comfortable 3-1 victory, leaving the Red Devils with a mountain to climb in the second leg.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is facing increasing pressure as manager, with his Red Devils side continuing to falter. The dejected Norwegian spoke to the press after the game, and claimed that the first-half performance was the worst his side had played this season.

"From their goal until half-time, that is the worst that we have played," Solskjaer said.

"From the first goal to half-time we just could not cope with that setback. We were running in between. The pressure didn't work and we let them play. Our heads dropped. We just made decisions that we should not do."

United will be looking to bounce back this weekend as they host a struggling Norwich City in the Premier League, with three points non-negotiable for a manager and side under huge pressure.
