It is reported that Wes Brown could be out until Christmas and that Fabien Barthez's thigh problem is not responding to treatment.

Sir Alex Ferguson has said that Wes Brown could be out for four months.

The injury to Fabien Barthez's thigh has not improved despite a course of injections though Ferguson is still hopeful that he will recover in time to join Rio Ferdinand in the team for Friday's trip to Chelsea.

Gary Neville has confirmed that his own recovery from injury is progressing well despite rumours to the contrary.

"Contrary to reports my recovery has been going well. There has been some stiffness and discomfort which is only natural when you have not put weight on a foot for three months.

"But I hope to be running properly by the end of next week and to play a reserve game the week after. If everything goes well I would hope to be back in action soon after the England international on September 7.’’

Meanwhile Alex Ferguson has his fingers crossed: 'I just hope that I don't get any more injuries.'

And what of the man himself

"I travelled to Schalke to show that I was fit, that my legs are in use, and that I am fit. I passed the medical and trained there for a few days. Now I am home again to consider the situation," he told Norwegian paper VG.

Notorious agent Rune Hauge confirmed that Schalke have tabled an:

"Ronny has got a suggestion from Schalke that he will chew over it's up to Ronny to say 'yes' or 'no'.

"He will get two or three days to make his mind up."
