The winner of the PFA Vertu Motors WSL Fans' Player of the Month - October

Manchester United forward Ella Toone has won October's PFA Vertu Motors WSL Fans' Player of the Month award.

Receiving 24.3% of the fan votes, Toone finished narrowly ahead of September's winner, Chelsea's Fran Kirby, who came in second after polling 24.1%.

United team-mate Hannah Blundell rounded out the top three, ahead of Arsenal trio Katie McCabe, Kim Little and Lotte Wubben-Moy.

October was a short month in the WSL, with teams having just two fixtures before heading off for an international break. But Toone still managed to stand up and make a real difference for United, kicking off the month with a fine performance in the 2-0 win at Birmingham City.

Toone added United's second goal after Leah Galton had given the Red Devils an early lead, and almost had a glorious second goal to celebrate - only to see her party spoiled by a fingertip save from goalkeeper Emily Ramsey, who is on loan at Birmingham from United.

The real standout moment of Toone's month came during the Manchester derby. With her side 1-0 down, the 22-year-old showed great intelligence and awareness to offer a short corner, before whipping a dangerous cross into the penalty area that was glanced home by Lucy Staniforth. The game would eventually finish 2-2.

Toone's form led to a deserved England call-up in October, and she played a significant role in the Lionesses' roaring victories over both Northern Ireland and Latvia - netting a hat-trick against the latter in a commanding 10-0 win for Sarina Wiegman's side.
