Fulham have signed Japanese World Cup star Junichi Inamoto on a one-year loan with a view to a permanent transfer. Inamoto told the Mirror: "I will go to Fulham where they will play me. I have always thought it would be difficult to make it in England. It is very physical, but I can cope."

Liverpool have held preliminary talks with Lee Bowyer over his proposed £9million move from Leeds and he is expected to sign before the end of the week after deciding to turn down a new deal at Elland Road. Bowyer was at Liverpool's Melwood training ground on Monday to discuss personal terms with club officials and undergo a medical.

Liverpool spokesman Ian Cotton said: "The position at the moment is that talks with the player are still ongoing."

Middlesbrough have made Juninho a bigger offer in a final bid to tempt the Brazilian back to the Riverside after he rejected a return to Teesside last week. "We are hopeful that both parties can eventually agree a deal to bring Juninho back to Middlesbrough."

"Steve McClaren made it clear he wanted to sign Juninho and the club have backed his judgement and gone to great efforts to try and bring him back."
