Twitter reacts as Man Utd collapse to embarrassing defeat in QPR friendly

Saturday 24 July was supposed to be a day of celebration for the red half of Manchester.

Manchester United had finally confirmed the signing of long-term transfer target Jadon Sancho, rumours of a Raphael Varane move were still rife, and the boss and club legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had put pen to paper on a brand new long-term deal.

While some mocked the Red Devils for persevering with the Norwegian coach and not hiring someone a bit... better, it was generally viewed as another step in the right direction.

So, the only way to round off this day of cheer would have been with an imaginary three points in their friendly clash with Championship outfit Queens Park Rangers, right?

Mmm, no. Instead, Man Utd contrived to throw away a positive start and early goal to lose 4-2, sparked by a shocking eight-minute collapse, in which they leaked three goals to their inferior opponents.

The game started well enough, with Jesse Lingard firmly announcing his return to the fold with a well taken goal after only three minutes. Ole is at the wheel!

But the good vibes quickly dissolved, as Charlie Austin grabbed an equaliser only four minutes later.

But that was only the calm before the s**tstorm that was to come. A Lyndon Dykes brace and a stunning long-range strike from trialist Moses Odubajo set Man Utd reeling, as they slipped from 1-1 to 4-1 down in the space of eight minutes.

Axel Tuanzebe came in for some criticism from Man Utd supporters, but he wasn't the only one to suffer the wrath of the fanbase. Special anger was saved for the likes of Nemanja Matic, Andreas Pereira, Juan Mata and other squad players, who some viewers would clearly prefer not to see again in a Red shirt.

And where does Solskjaer lie in all this mini embarrassment?

Strap in, boy and girls, Ole is going to be at the wheel for years to come... probably.
