Twitter Reacts as Man Utd Knock PSG Out of Champions League With Dramatic Last Minute Penalty

Manchester United bounced back in unbelievable fashion to knock Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday evening, as the Red Devils upset to the odds to overturn the first leg deficit, and emerge 3-1 winners, to claim the tie 3-3 on aggregate.

It was a sensational, nail-biting occasion, in which United emerged victorious after a VAR decision gave Ole Gunnar Solskjær's side a last minute penalty, which was emphatically slammed home by the hero of the hour, Marcus Rashford.

Here's how it all went down on Twitter...

Marcus Rashford

Things got off to an absolute flyer for United, as their often maligned striker Romelu Lukaku capitalised on PSG defender Thilo Kehrer's horrific error - picking up his shoddy back-pass before rounding Gianluigi Buffoon and, admittedly rather clumsily, firing home after just two minutes.

Understandably, Twitter exploded:

PSG were on the ropes, looking shell-shocked, but the Ligue 1 leaders managed to hit back soon after, after Eric Bailey appeared to suffer from a spontaneous bout of narcolepsy, allowing Juan Bernat to breeze past him a tuck the ball home from close range unchallenged.

It's safe to say that fans weren't exactly impressed with his efforts...

Things then got very, very exciting for United, as Lukaku once again came up with the goods, as he snuffled up Gianluigi Buffon's spilled save like a seasoned truffle hog, slotting home from a tight angle to send the away fans into absolute hysteria - and the Twitter faithful, for that matter:

The second half got under way, and it was a tense, tense time for fans of both sides. United needed another goal, but by rushing forwards they would expose them to a potentially tie deciding score from their opponents:

A stomach-clenching moment then followed, as Kylian Mbappé produced a moment of utter class with an outrageous flick to Angel di Maria, who slipped a sumptuous shot over David de Gea and into the back of the net.

Unfortunately for PSG fans, it was (quite rightfullyadjudged to be offside, and United fans were, to put it mildly, rather relieved about the decision:

As the second half wore on, PSG grew in confidence, and came closer and closer to finishing off the tie. They masterfully took the sting out of the game and frustrated their opponents, while breaking with pace when the opportunity presented itself.

Mbappé then missing a golden opportunity to grabbing the all-important goal:

As the game ticked into the final minutes, the glorious moment finally came for the Red Devils, as Diogo Dalot's blasted shot struck the arm of Presnel Kimpembe on the way over the bar, which VAR flagged up, and awarded United the penalty.

Rashford stepped up and made no mistake, and things got pretty wild, pretty damn quickly!

After a staggering nine minutes of added time, the referee eventually blew the final whistle, and Twitter once again erupted with excited chatter about the game:

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off for a nice, quiet lie down in a darkened room.

What. A. Night.
