United could be set to entertain Real Madrid once more with transfer roulette

When the big clubs with money buy players they know they will have to pay big valuations which can often be a huge financial risk

You can put clauses in place to mitigate some of that risk but at the end of the day the player may no longer be worth what you paid.

When Real Madrid paid AS Monaco a reported €79.5m for the Colombian James Rodriguez it made him one of the most expensive transfers in football and to this day that deal is still the 7th biggest in history

The player was a sensation at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, finishing top-scorer which played a huge part in his value snow-balling as a commercial asset.

The versatile midfielder has not had a great 2015-16 season mostly due to a thigh muscle tear picked up in an international which ended up ruling the player out from 10th September until mid October

James has as a consequence fallen out of favour and was an unused substitute in the recent El Clasico

It is still bemusing why Madrid would want to offload James after just two seasons

One report cites criticisms that the player lost his way and "lost his humility" according to claims from Colombian journalist Ivan Mejia who spoke out against the player in a radio segment.

James Rodriguez "has lost his humility" and "dedicated himself to getting Benitez sacked", it has been claimed.

"HeÂ’s in a a footballing decline, heÂ’s not playing well," said Mejia.

"The Madrid board are worried because heÂ’s not that same James that arrived after the World Cup

HeÂ’s racing his car, heÂ’s going out at night, HeÂ’s making appearances in QatarÂ…

"He follows Cristiano and wants to be part of his group."

"He, Sergio Ramos and Cristiano Ronaldo dedicated themselves to sabotaging Benitez."

"HeÂ’s lost all sense of perspective and isnÂ’t training well.

"That Benitez left him on the bench is completely understandable

He, Sergio Ramos and Cristiano Ronaldo dedicated themselves to sabotaging Benitez

He follows Cristiano and wants to be part of his group.

"HeÂ’s lost his humility, lamentably

If he doesnÂ’t come back down to earth then heÂ’ll become a flash in the pan."

Rodriguez allegedly angered Zinedine Zidane by sitting back on the bench when asked to warm up as a potential replacement for Gareth Bale.

Real are hoping to lose just £3.5m on their investment for the 24-year-old player who's valuation it could be argued doesn't seem to match his record.

When James joined AS Monaco from Porto he cost €45 million, and just previous to that United were reported to have made a €30 million bid for the player.

With such a huge valuation there will only be a select few clubs in Europe willing to throw the dice on a player with clear marketable talent and you would think Real Madrid are unlikely to budge on that valuation

James Rodriguez could be a valuable asset for United and the Mirror feels United may be tempted

With concerns over the future of Carrick and the fitness of Schweinsteiger he could be a big player long-term

United though will be weary considering their previous history in the transfer ring with Real.
