The Red Devils have been linked with a move for England international Nathaniel Clyne for a number of months, and it now appears that Southampton are preparing for life without the 23-year-old defender as they look to sign his replacement in Soares.
Clyne has one year left on his current deal at Southampton and looks no closer to signing a new deal with the club, despite changing agents in May a move that was supposed to help negotiations between player and club.
United's Premier League rivals Liverpool have also shown interest in Clyne but their £10million offer was instantly rejected by Saints.
Louis van Gaal's side had been linked with a move for Barcelona's Dani Alves, however that avenue has since closed with the Brazilian signing a new deal with the Champions League winners
But the Express claim the reported £3.6million signing of Soares will be the catalyst that sees Clyne move on Southampton.
