United test the waters with Bale and Varane transfer bid

The club have today officially announced Rafa Benitez as their manager, and will make an unveiling later in the day and it will be interesting to see if his arrival prompts a change in direction

Rafa will have his own ideas, tactically and with player management and whilst some changes are inevitable with Ancelotti preferring 4-3-3 a change could provide opportunity for some or spell the end for others.

Manchester United want to help Rafa with some decision-making and according to a report in the Telegraph have already made a rather audacious double bid amounting to £110million for Gareth Bale and Raphael Varane.

Bale of course is a long-standing target of Manchester United who wanted to sign him before he cose to join Real Madrid for a record fee but this season has been difficult for the Welshman, with taunts from Real fans and a less than warm relationship with stars such as Cristiano Ronaldo

For United, this seems a good time to make their move for the player and despite the fact that the bid appears to have been rejected.

Spanish newspaper El Mundo Deportivo and Cuatro reported that Real Madrid rejected the bid immediately but believe United will be back once the new manager at Real is installed

Varane represents one of the principle needs of Man United and is one of the hottest young prospects in Europe that United would immediately find more useful than Real Madrid and the fact they went for both players is interesting and could represent most of their primary goals for the transfer window.

Rafa will likely be quizzed about the future of certain stars at his new club such as Bale and Varane in his press conference later today.
