The News of the World reports that United may personally sue Sven Goran Eriksson if he is injured at the World Cup.

Manchester United will sue Sven Goran Eriksson personally if Wayne Rooney suffers a World Cup breakdown — even though they have struck a peace deal over the England star.

The News of the World can reveal United were locked in a series of tense negotiations with the FA on Friday.

But United will take legal action if England change their minds and Rooney gets injured again by being plunged into action too swiftly.

A highly-placed source said: "United are satisfied for the time being that Rooney won't be rushed back.

"But they are going to monitor the situation very closely indeed.

"If Sven picks Rooney in the group stages and he gets injured, then United will take legal action against him personally."

Such unprecedented action could land the Swede with a multi-million pound lawsuit after he walks away from the England job at the end of the tournament.
