"It appears they have reached agreement on personal terms with Veron's people but he's our player and we'll decide what's best for the club. But they have not spoken to Seba at this stage. We have had a Chelsea offer now and at this stage it's not been accepted although it will be under review. It'll be the middle of next week when we'll decide what we need to do.

"We write down players values over the length of their contract anyway so it's not as though he is in the books at what we paid for him. There have been no other firm bids for Seba although there was initially interest from Italy."

Fergie: "There is no agreement with Chelsea whatsoever, so get that right. I want him to stay. He is a great player and that is the way it stays at the moment.

However, perhaps poignantly he continues: "We’re trying to give ourselves options and we’ve bought young players to shore us up in certain positions. Maybe in one sense, with bringing in Djemba-Djemba and Kleberson, I’ve overstaffed myself a bit in centre midfield."

The Mail on Sunday go as far as saying that Veron will sign for Chelsea next week. The People claim that he will go if Chelsea up their bid to £16.5 million.
