Ferguson believes United must improve to get further than the second round of the Champions League.

"From now on every game is of real significance in terms of the quality of the opposition and the importance of the occasions and I hope that helps us," he said.

"But I think the most important thing is we can't take things for granted.

"We can't spurn chances like we did in Copenhagen and Celtic. That is a warning.

"Whoever we play in the second round, there could be Barcelona or Real Madrid so there is a lot of quality there."
