What Cristiano Ronaldo said in dressing room speech ahead of Man Utd debut

Cristiano Ronaldo gave his new Manchester United teammates a rousing speech ahead of making his second debut against Newcastle United to try and bring the best out of the squad.

Ronaldo made a predictably excellent start to his second spell at Old Trafford, firing home two goals to lead United to an emphatic 4-1 victory over Steve Bruce's side.

It looked as though Ronaldo's arrival the club had given the squad a huge boost, and now The Sun have revealed the details of the pre-match speech he gave to get his team-mates up for the momentous occasion.

"I have returned to Man Utd for two reasons," Ronaldo began. "The first is because I love the club. The second is I love the winning mentality that breeds through the ranks of this club.

“I have not come back to be a cheerleader. If you guys want to succeed, then I need you to love this club from the bottom of your hearts. You need to eat, sleep and fight for this club. Whether you play or do not play, you need to support your teammates and always give 100% for the club.

"I am here to win and nothing else. Winning brings us happiness. I want to be happy, do you?"

After receiving a round of applause from his teammates for his speech, Ronaldo continued to heap praise on the squad and urged them to help bring United back from their recent battle with mediocrity.

He added: "You are all amazing players and I believe in you, or else I would have not returned. The fans will support you, if you give your best. I just want to create a winning mentality, so when I do retire one day, the winning mentality will remain, and this group of players will dominate football, like we did in the past.

"I will do my best for the team but I need your support too. Are you ready to fight? Are you ready to leave everything on the pitch?”

Ronaldo's impact on the squad has previously been revealed by Lee Grant, who confessed to talkSPORT that everyone in the squad chose to snub dessert on the Friday before the game in an attempt to follow Ronaldo's healthy-eating lifestyle.

It clearly worked for United as roared to a comfortable 4-1 victory, leaving them top of the Premier League table after four games.
