WORTHLESS…NAH!

Fergie has decided that the Worthington cup isn't as worthless as we thought ahead of this week's quarter final against Chelsea he admitted.

`I don't know what side I am going to play, I am mulling it over,'

`But I know Chelsea are going to play their strongest side and I have to take recognition of that and make sure we have a side that can win.

`We want to give one or two players the experience but the main structure of the team will be the same as Saturday.

`A home draw in a quarterfinal is always a great incentive. There is no question we want to win the cup.

`I have used the Worthington Cup in different ways over the years and young players have had great experience through it.

`We've been a bit unfortunate with away draws in the last few years - Aston Villa, Sunderland, Tottenham, Arsenal. They were all difficult draws.'

Ferguson has been impressed with his players' displays as they have recorded seven consecutive wins however he remains adamant that the players were fine all along.

`There is no question that in the last few games the players have increased their performance level.

`But the attitude has been good all along. That is the foundation of where we are at the moment. We are pleased.'

This from the Sun

"Chelsea have a good record here and, sometimes, you try and ignore that.

"But I know we have to do something about it.

"We're not talking a good record over two or three years but going way back."

We've come this far

He added: "I know they're going to play their strongest team so I have to put out a strong side.

"But, of course, it's also a big game - a quarter-final at home and another chance to keep our good run going.

"I don't think a semi-final can be classed as an inconvenience. It is an incentive for us - the incentive of getting to Cardiff and a final has to be worthwhile.

"Look at Liverpool two seasons ago, when they won it. They used it as a springboard to go on and win more trophies."
