Blackburn chairman John Williams would be more than happy to see Mark Hughes takeover as United manager. Speaking to Sky Sports News he said:

"He's surpassed our expectations,"

"He's an excellent man, very thorough, and has assembled a very, very professional backroom team with him. I think that's very important.

"I remember 18 months ago when he came, I was not put off that people were then commenting this will be a Manchester United manager of the future," he added.

"I said then and say it again: If Mark Hughes is managing Manchester United, one day in the distant future, then Blackburn Rovers will be a very happy football club."
