Private Eye readers will no doubt be worried about anyone connected with the Strategic Rail Authority having anything to do with the FA, but it looks a possibility. The Guardian reports:

The Football Association yesterday moved a step closer to appointing a chief executive when its executive board decided on a three-man shortlist from which Mark Palios's replacement will be selected this month.


‘Brian Barwick, head of sport at ITV, and Richard Bowker, until recently chairman and chief executive of the Strategic Rail Authority, are two of those who will attend second interviews with the full board on November 25. The identity of the third candidate is as yet unknown.’
