New regulations governing players' agents were yesterday approved by the Football Association following a meeting of the FA Council.

The new measures that have been sanctioned include preventing dual representation, when an agent acts for both a club and a player in the same transfer; methods of payment to agents; that requirement that overseas agents operating in England register with the FA to bring them under its jurisdiction.

The Council has decided the new regulations will come into force in time for the 2007 summer transfer window, subject to Fifa approval.

The meeting also saw the approval of new regulations on drugs, which brings English football into line with the World Anti-Doping Agency code, and they will come into force in January.
