Al Nassr president offers surprise response to Cristiano Ronaldo question

The president of Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr has laughed off questions about their interest in Cristiano Ronaldo, pretending not to even know who the Portugal international is.

90min understands that Al Nassr have offered to make Ronaldo the highest-paid player in the history of football following his exit from Manchester United, but the striker has yet to make a final decision on his future.

Ronaldo had been focused on the World Cup before Portugal's elimination from the quarter-final, and has since been training at Real Madrid's Valdebebas base to keep himself fit while the search for a new club goes on.

Asked by Ali Al-Enezi whether a move for Ronaldo is close to completion, Al Nassr president Musalli Al Muammar chose to play dumb.

“Who is Ronaldo? I don't know him," he said.

Later, Al Muammar spoke to SSC Sports about the deal and, while acknowleding Ronaldo's existence this time, he did his best to play down a move.

“Cristiano was busy recently with the World Cup and I don't think he's negotiating with anyone," Al Muammar added. “We will not speak about other players, I wish the best to Cristiano with any decision he makes."

Al Muammar's comments come shortly after Al Nassr manager Rudi Garcia admitted his desire to coach Ronaldo, insisting that he came close to doing so recently before United recruited Ralf Rangnick instead.
