The French press were reporting a couple of days ago that a
deal was all but done and quoted a club source at PSG as
saying:

"They came back with an appropriate offer."

L’Equipe report PSG sources as saying:

"Manchester are now very near PSG expectations, at least 30
million euros before any profit-sharing scheme. They came
with good arguments, practically what we were expecting from
them."

But they also report that Barca have tabled a 30m Euro bid
for him, and that this no longer includes a player swap.

The Gruaniad report that the deal is ‘on the verge of
collapse last night after Barcelona re-entered the race to
clinch his signature, apparently encouraged by confirmation
that the Brazilian would rather move to La Liga than Old
Trafford.’

According to the paper, relations between United and PSG
have sunk to a new low, with the French club reportedly
telephoning Barca’s President to persuade him not to back
out of the negotiations.

Laporta is quoted as saying:

"We were on the verge of agreeing the fee on Tuesday before
United's bid came in and turned it into an auction. We can't
compete with United financially, so the only way Ronaldinho
is coming to Barcelona is if he really wants to."

Apparently Fergie may be losing patience with Ronaldinho and
could be starting to question his commitment to play for
United.

The Telegraph, Times and Independent all report similar
stories, and further bad news for Ronaldinho enthusiasts is
the fact that the Evening News are convinced that a deal is
nearly done. Surely this puts the kiss of death on the whole
thing.
