IMUSA AND SU RESPOND TO PRESS REPORTS OF MANCHESTER UNITED’S AGM

The Independent Manchester United Supporters Association and Shareholders United today condemned the Board of Manchester United PLC for presenting Sir Alex Ferguson to Friday's AGM, and also gave their full backing to the manager following distorted and hysterical reports in the media.

IMUSA Vice-Chair, Jules Spencer said:

“If the PLC intended to deflect attention away from the serious issues that arose at the AGM by cynically attempting to hide behind Sir Alex Ferguson at the end of the meeting, then they certainly achieved that.

“Unfortunately, as a result, the Board have yet again brought more negative publicity upon the Club. They should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.”

SU spokesman, Oliver Houston said:

“The sad result of the Board's ham-fisted and cowardly actions is that the important issues and major talking points of the day, such as the sickening 'extra dividend' sweetener for the City and the astonishing complacency in the face of former PLC Chairman Sir Roland Smith joining BSkyB as a TV rights adviser, have been overlooked in the distorted and somewhat hysterical reporting of the AGM.

"They claim they were trying to make the meeting more 'accessible', but their attempt to deflect criticism in this way has clearly backfired - and it's the Club's morale and reputation that suffers. It was a baptism of fire for new PLC Chairman Sir Roy Gardner… and he's got his fingers burnt."
