AND SHERINGHAM

From the Mirror:

"I wouldn't say that the drinking culture has finished in English football but it has definitely been tamed. Years ago players would finish training then go to the pub. And they would be drinking all day. That just does not happen any more.

You might have your odd night out but as for drinking in the week and going mad, that just does not happen any more.

"Foreign players have come in and taught us a lot about our game, in terms of fitness and how to look after yourself.

"Also what they have taught us about technique has been invaluable. I think the Premiership has definitely been enhanced by foreigners. By top foreigners anyway.

"The Zolas and the Bergkamps and Cantonas have been fantastic and set a great example."

Sheringham says the best player he has ever lined up with - or against - was Roy Keane.

"What a fantastic player. His drive, his enthusiasm and his will to win just made him that bit better than everyone around him. A fantastic player.

"Dwight Yorke came in and replaced me, doing a fantastic job. He and Andy Cole had a fantastic season when we won the Treble in 1999. They didn't get the credit that they deserved, especially when you consider that Man United played something like 70 games and they probably would have played 60 of those games each.

"They were outstanding that season. They both scored a lot of goals and they were the reason that United won the Treble."
