AND WHAT OF THE JAAPSTER?

"I am aware of Leeds' interest. I can only reiterate my desire to stay in Italy, I
have no interest in leaving Lazio."
Without a hint of bitterness Stam believes Ferdinand will improve as a player
at Old Trafford.
"Ferdinand is a quality player, but I've no doubt moving to Old Trafford will
improve him further. He had a good World Cup for England, but I doubt
whether we have yet seen the best of him."
"I saw Ferdinand playing during the World Cup and it was obvious to me that
he has raised his game to another level. It was only a matter of time before an
even bigger club than Leeds came in for him."
"The move will prove to be an excellent one for both the player and the club.
In many ways, United have done the same with Ferdinand as they did when
they brought me from PSV - buying an international player not yet at their
peak with an eye on the future. I was 26 when I signed, Ferdinand is 23 and
I'm sure he will prove a big asset for many seasons."
"I improved as a player at United"
According to quotes in the Sun Jaap insists he has no intention of moving to
Elland Road.
"I am aware of Leeds' interest. My agent told me they had made
enquiries. But I told him to say I have no interest in leaving Lazio.
It's very flattering that a club like Leeds have expressed an interest - but not
for the first time this summer I can only reiterate my desire to stay in Italy.
There have also been recent reports linking me with both Milan clubs. I want
to remain in Rome but a transfer to another Italian club is more likely than a
return to England."
"I suppose it was almost inevitable that my name would be linked with Leeds.
It's nothing more than speculation - they have been in touch and now have my
answer. I hope this puts an end to the rumours."
According to Reuters Hector Cuper may yet take Stam or Nesta to Inter:
"Yes, Nesta or Stam, there isn't a difference. I don't want to make
comparisons, but I will say that for me it won't change anything. Stam played
in a three-men defence with Manchester United, and so, if he'll arrive, I could
think about this possible system. With him or Nesta, Inter could change".
