ANELKA RAGE

Anelka is apparently incensed by Keegan's refusal to allow him to play in last night's charity game in Nimes, organised by Laurent Blanc. Keegan wants his leading scorer to play in tonight's Worthington Cup tie at Wigan.

"I enjoyed myself against West Brom on Saturday and I am appreciating the English style of play, but the main thing is missing for me," Anelka said on his website. "I won't be able to be there for the benefit game at Nimes and, quite frankly, that pisses me off.

"I have only just found out, and it is for the simple reason that the manager didn't want to let me go. The match is on Monday night and City have a cup game on Tuesday, so Keegan asked me not to go."

Anelka had given Blanc his word that he would be available to help raise money for the flood victims in the region of southern France where the United defender grew up. It is thought the striker booked his flight before informing Keegan of his plans.

"I would like to say sorry to Laurent, everybody else who organised the game, the people in south-eastern France who suffered in the floods and the French national team members."
