Anthony Martial grabs first Sevilla assist in late Elche win

Manchester United loanee Anthony Martial grabbed his first La Liga assist as Sevilla beat Elche 2-0 on Friday night.

The Andalusian side moved to within three points of table-topping Real Madrid, with Martial playing a starring role at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

Sevilla struggled to break their visitors down for much of the match, but took a 70th-minute lead when Alejandro Gomez cut in from the left and fired a low shot under Edgar Badia.

Julen Lopetegui's side doubled their advantage six minutes later when Martial - who joined on loan from Man Utd for the rest of the season last month - broke free down the left flank and made it to the byline, scooping a cross perfectly onto the head of Rafa Mir to secure the three points.

Los Nervionenses are now within touching distance of Real Madrid, though they have played one game more than their title rivals.

Martial could feature in his first Europa League match for Sevilla on Thursday when they host Dinamo Zagreb in the first leg of their knockout round play-off.

The Spanish club are on the hunt for a record seventh Europa League trophy.
