Anthony Martial & Marcus Rashford doubtful for Manchester derby

Manchester United could be without attacking duo Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford for Sunday's derby against Manchester City.

Martial has missed United's last five matches because of an Achilles problem, while a hamstring injury has been behind Rashford's three-week absence.

There had been hope the international break would give both forwards a good chance to recover and get back to training, but according to The Times, neither player has returned to full team training just yet.

As a result, both Martial and Rashford are now doubtful for the City clash, which could force Erik ten Hag to deploy a similar lineup to that which saw off Sheriff 2-0 in the Europa League two weeks ago.

Cristiano Ronaldo started up top and scored his first goal of the season from the penalty spot, with Jadon Sancho and new signing Antony deployed either side of the Portugal international, whose recent performances for his country attracted significant criticism from media in his homeland.

Youngsters Anthony Elanga and Alejandro Garnacho should both be available on the bench as well.

Elsewhere, Ten Hag is likely to be without centre-back Harry Maguire, who did not train with the Red Devils on Wednesday as a result of a thigh injury picked up during the international break.

Maguire is now not expected to feature against City, although he has lost his place at club level and was unlikely to play a significant role even if he was fit.

Ten Hag has preferred the defensive duo of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez, who will almost certainly start for United on Sunday.
