From the MEN:

Sir Alex Ferguson has been linked with swoops for two defenders, but he will have to wait to complete either deal.

The Reds are reportedly interested in Marseille centre back Daniel van Buyten and Red Star Belgrade youngster Nemanja Vidic.

Van Buyten was one of a number of targets watched by United as Marseilles beat Rennes earlier in the week, but boss Alan Perrin has said that he won't let the 24-year-old to leave during the current season.

However Perrin added that the £8 million rated van Buyten could be allowed to leave in the summer.

United are also interested in Vidic, according to representatives form Red Star.
However any deal seems unlikely at present as Vidic would be unlikely to qualify for a work permit as he is far from being a regular in the Yugoslav national side.

Elsewhere:

Patrick Kluivert has dismissed rumours that he will be joining Manchester United, saying he has no intention of leaving Barcelona.

The Dutch striker has been linked with a £15 million move from the Nou Camp as United look to sign another front line striker.

But the 26-year-old said he was surprised by the rumours linking him with a move to the Premiership.

"I don't know anything," he told a press conference.

"I have said it many times that I am very happy in Barcelona and I have no intention of changing teams."

The rumours were started in the Spanish paper El Mundo Deportivo and further fuel was added to the flames when Kluivert's agent Sigi Lens was seen in Manchester.
