And people wonder why football has such a bad financial
reputation.

The Torygraph reports:

‘Despite their success on the pitch…Arsenal struggled to
make money from their football, with the club's football-
related loss increasing by £1.3 million to £9.9 million for
the half-year.

‘Although football income went up by £2 million, gate
revenues remained flat at £12.4 million. The club's annual
wage bill went up by £3 million over the six-month period to
pay for improved contracts for Patrick Vieira, Robert Pires
and Kolo Toure.

‘Debt at the half-year was £61.7 million, up from £45.8
million in May, 2003.’
