Ashley Young Compares Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to Sir Alex Ferguson (With a Straight Face, Somehow)

Manchester United defender Ashley Young has claimed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's arrival in the north-west was like having Sir Alex Ferguson back at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have made their worst start to a top-flight season in 33 years, amassing just 13 points from their first 11 fixtures this term. The contrast between United at present and the club under Ferguson could hardly be greater, the Scotsman having collected 13 Premier League titles, nine domestic cups and two Champions League trophies during his tenure.

Following a marvellous start to his career as Red Devils boss, Solskjaer's side entered free-fall. They failed to qualify for Europe's elite competition as they earned only two points from their final five league matches, despite facing relegated Huddersfield Town and Cardiff City in that run.

Nevertheless, Young has lavished praise on his manager, saying (as quoted by Manchester Evening News): "Since he came in, it was like the boss had walked back through the door. Same traits, same winning mentality, same desire, hunger.

"He has been here as a player and knows what the club is. That is what the club wanted and you can see at times in training he wants to put his boots on and join in. It has been fantastic and it's like the boss has walked back in the door."

Young was equally positive regarding Solskjaer's willingness to give youth a chance, explaining: "To see the likes of Mason [Greenwood], Jimmy [Garner], [Tahith] Chong, Angel [Gomes], Brandon [Williams]...they have done fantastically well.

"They have come in and it's a great opportunity for them when they get minutes on the pitch. That is the way the club is when you see youngsters doing well. They've come through to the first team throughout the years.

"They have to keep working hard in training, keep listening and keep learning from people giving them the right advice to improve themselves."
