Atletico Madrid interested in Anthony Martial swap deal

Atletico Madrid are interested in negotiating a swap deal with Manchester United for Anthony Martial.

Martial's agent recently outlined the forward's desire to leave Old Trafford with the Frenchman barely featuring so far this season. He has made 10 appearances in total, the vast majority from the bench, and only scored once.

His marginal involvement this term is the latest low in what has been a stop-start career since he joined United back in 2015.

With Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Mason Greenwood all ahead of him in the forward department, the chances of him resurrecting his Old Trafford career are slim.

Recently, interim manager Ralf Rangnick was asked about the situation and responded: "I don't communicate with agents via the media and press. The player hasn't spoken with me or us about it."

January interest in Martial is expected with Eurosport reporting that Atletico are keen. However, the La Liga holders favour a swap deal.

They are expected to reach out to United later this month to enquire about his situation and what it would take to prise him away from Manchester. If he does sign, it will make the Champions League last-16 meeting between the pair in February very interesting.

One sticking point in a potential agreement could be finding an Atletico player to include in the swap deal. Kieran Trippier was a United target in the summer and was keen on the switch, but Atleti seem unlikely to sanction his departure.

Los Rojiblancos are not the only side interested in Martial. As 90min reported back in September, Borussia Dortmund are considering signing him as a replacement for Erling Haaland, who is widely expected to depart in the summer.

Paris Saint-Germain may also offer Martial an escape route, though they do look stacked in the forward department already.
