Ayoze Perez reveals Leicester reaction to Brendan Rodgers Man Utd links

Leicester City forward Ayoze Perez insists he and his teammates have not been distracted by reports linking manager Brendan Rodgers with the Man Utd vacancy.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was dismissed as Red Devils boss at the weekend following a torrid run of results - which included a 4-2 defeat to the Foxes at the King Power Stadium.

90min understands that Rodgers would be prepared to take the United job on a permanent basis right now, though the club revealed in their statement announcing Solskjaer's sacking that they intend to appoint an interim boss until the end of the season.

Perez, who was signed by Rodgers from Newcastle ahead of the 2019/20 season, has said that Leicester are not entertaining the links.

“We are not even thinking about that possibility [Rodgers leaving]. What he has shown us, he is totally focused on where we can improve," he said at a press conference ahead of Leicester's Europa League tie with Legia Warsaw.

“We are not thinking about anything else, not him either. We are really focused here.

“He is trying to make us think about the basics [to improve form]. You have to try not to overthink and overdo things. We are sure the win is close. We know the importance of tomorrow and we are focused on that.”

After just missing out on Champions League qualification in each of the last two seasons, Leicester have started the 2021/22 campaign in comparatively poor form. They sit 12th in the Premier League table and have taken just five points from their opening four Europa League games.

Rodgers admitted in the same press conference that he is sure the Foxes will find some rhythm again and defended his side from criticism after losing 3-0 to Chelsea at the weekend.

“The confidence isn’t at the level we want it to be. I have no doubts it will return. We need to keep working hard," he said.

“I felt at the weekend we were playing one of the top teams – not just in our league or Europa but the world. It was through no lack of effort, attitude and energy.

“I only ask for a little bit of perspective, these players have given so much in the last couple of years.”
