BACK TO MANCHESTER?

Both The Mirror and The Express quote Gattuso: "My agent has told me there has been a lot of interest from England and that one of the clubs to have spoken to him is Manchester United. They are a big club so i would have to be interested. It is an honour to be mentioned alongside them."

Former coach Archie Knox says that Milan's Gennaro Gattuso is made for Manchester

Knox knows Gattuso well from the time he was Walter Smith's assistant at Rangers, a spell which saw the player recruited when he was a young unknown.

He said: "I thought he was the man of the match without a shadow of a doubt. They gave it to (Paolo) Maldini, who was excellent as well of course, but I'm delighted to see him doing well because he certainly had the talent when he was here at Rangers to go on to be a big player.

"He's certainly proved that. He has come a long way in a short time.

"As a boy he had such enthusiasm for the game, the club he was playing for and the support. He was a big favourite with the Rangers supporters. I think they would have been sad to see him go.''

"I'm sure he would augment their squad. He has that level of ability to play at a club like Manchester United and he has the temperament to go along with it."
