Venables says that he has had talks with Newcastle whilst most papers say that O'Dreary will leave Villa and take up post at St James Park.

Given his track record with his 'babies' at Elland Road it will be interesting to see how he controls the likes of Bowyer, Bellamy, Dyer, Bramble, Jenas et al.

At least Woodgate has gone I suppose.

Anyway this is what El Tel says in his 'official paper', the Screws:

"I don't think there is a club in this country bigger than Newcastle.

"It is a tremendous opportunity - I am very excited about it. Freddy is a down-to-earth guy and we got on well.

"I feel very happy with the way things went.

"We had a meeting, a good chat and our conversations will be ongoing.

"I have an open mind about the situation now. Sir Bobby Robson would be a difficult act to follow - but to manage Newcastle is a great opportunity and I am very pleased to be considered."

I don't think there is a club in this country bigger than Newcastle. Hmmmm
