Mike Phelan signed off as reserve-team boss with a 6-2 win over Aston Villa at Altrincham FC's Moss Lane ground on Thursday night.

Phelan has been promoted to first-team duties under assistant boss Carlos Queiroz, with Ricky Sbragia set to come in to look after the second string.

Daniel Nardiello (2), Neil Wood, Luke Chadwick, Jimmy Davis and Danny Pugh completed the 6-2 rout.

Meanwhile, the reserve clash with Bolton at Gigg Lane on Monday has been postponed because of United's involvement in Europe.
