BEWARE OF THE O.A.P
A great-grandfather became the country's oldest convicted football hooligan
yesterday when he was found guilty of attacking a man banging a drum behind
his team's goal.
Edward Smith, 73, attacked a rival fan known as "Dave the Drummer" -
51-year-old David Ainslie - during a match between Mildenhall Town and
Lowestoft in August, magistrates in Lowestoft were told yesterday.
Mr Ainslie, a former Army drummer and staunch Lowestoft fan, said he was
knocked unconscious when Smith pushed him over the railings as he went to
get a cup of tea at the interval.
He was ordered to pay £100 compensation to Mr Ainslie and £100 in costs, but
no fine was imposed.
